Editorial

The weight of a century sits heavy on our shoulders as we sit down to pen this editorial. Has this magazine lived up to the hopes and aspirations of those noteworthy men and women who initiated and nurtured it? Indeed, a difficult question to answer. As one looks back and sizes up the literary oeuvre of the past magazines, one is humbled and one wonders if in recent times the literary genius at St. Xavier’s has diminished or flourished? Looking forward, one is astounded at the progress that St. Xavier’s has made and the lofty ambitions it still nourishes, reflected as they are in the rapid strides taken by every department of the college!

As the ‘keeper of records’ this magazine has definitely prospered as it encodes the story of advancement and the quest for excellence, told by every stone of this mighty edifice. The recent international tie-ups forged by the college with renowned world universities bear new testimony to this story.

This issue is a product of teamwork, which is the strength of St. Xavier’s. It presents the significant achievements in every area of education and mirrors the dream of a rich future. The archival pages take you on an interesting sojourn through the magazines of the past, while the department and association reports and records of students’ achievements tell the story of every Xavierite’s attempt to live up to the motto and to scale new heights.
The magazine editorial team and I, without much ado, leave you to savour a variegated fare - literary pieces by Xavierites past and present and chronicles of their success. We wonder, in passing, whether the magazine, a hundred years hence, will be in old fashioned ‘print’ or on a ‘digital tablet’!
