Fr. Cedric Prakash, S.J. – On 14th July the Govt. of France decorated Fr. Prakash with the “Chevalier de La Legion d’Honneur (Legion of Honour), France’s highest civilian honour, awarded since 1802 to outstanding individuals, mainly French nationals, who distinguish themselves through civilian valour. This award acknowledged his “lifetime commitment to the defence and the promotion of Human Rights in India.” In 2003, the India Muslim Council, USA presented him with the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award” for Humanitarian work and in 1995, the President of India conferred on him the “Kabir Puraskar” for his work in the promotion of Communal Harmony and Peace.

The National Commission for Minorities of the Govt. of India decided to confer the Minorities Rights Award 2006 to Fr. Prakash at a function held in Delhi on Dec. 18, 2006. Fr. Cedric Prakash heads one of the most high-profile human rights centers “PRASHANT” in Ahmedabad, and is also the Secretary of the Commission for Social Communications of the Western Region Catholic Bishops Council.
