Miss Bernadette Pimenta has been concerned with the underprivileged and the marginalized right from her school days. She joined the Social Service League in St. Xavier’s College and was touched by the caption “God’s service in Man’s service”. Bernadette, earned the degrees of M.A., M.Ed., a diploma in De-Langue and a Diploma in Higher Education and started her career as a high school teacher and later as a college lecturer. She gave it all up to start her own, well known “Garden School” which has value based, personality growth programs for children up to Class VI. She is a Founder Member of Seva Dham which reaches out to prisoners, remand home children and inmates of mental hospitals and conducts programs to build mutual respect and appreciation for persons of all faiths. She networks with several like minded organisations. She is a member of a couple of Archdiocesan commissions. She was former Vice-President of ‘Respect for Life, India”, National Secretary for Women, and later President of the All India Catholic Union. At present, she is on the Managing Committee of the Indo Global Social Service Society (IGSSS).
